Hi, I’m Dr. Jong!With both my Bachelor and PhD degrees in Chemistry, I am fully qualified to teach chemistry at all levels of high school and freshman-level university courses. I specialize in Chemistry and Math, and I can work with you in either, or both.For Chemistry, I can coach you in general, honors, and AP Chemistry courses, as well as help you prepare for the ACS Chemistry Olympiad. For Mathematics, we can focus on Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. I also offer test-prep courses for the chemistry and math sections of the ACT, and SAT (math only).

Although there are no shortcuts to learning, it doesn’t have to be tedious: we’ll use animated films, 3D models, games and labs (and sometimes both!) in conjunction with PowerPoints that are designed to be engaging and memorable. While fun, I’ve also found this method to be successful: 3 out of 4 students increased their letter grade by one step in a month.

1. Dr. Jong is very fair. He is usually on time, right when the minute hits. If I have a class at 3 PM, he'll do it at 3 PM sharp. If he is late for any reason, he will go a few minutes over to compensate.2. He is good at teaching. Personalized

Each session is designed around you. As we continue to work together, I’ll learn about the way you learn, the places you’re struggling, and work to cater my lessons to your needs and stay on pace until you’ve got the lesson down. We’ll go back and forwards as needed to ensure concepts are understood. This attention to detail is why many students succeed with me. Sessions are on Zoom - we’ll read through problems and virtual labs together while I make notes on the screen. You’ll be able to upload your assignments and worksheets and we’ll work through them together, with you able to take as many pictures as needed.

Can we start with a trial lesson?

Absolutely. To make sure we’re a good fit without too much commitment, a first course is discounted at 50%, or $30/hour. Afterwards, the student or parent can let me know if they would like to continue — no pressure!

How do you personalize lessons to the student’s curriculum?

I ask students questions as I teach. If they don’t understand certain concepts, then I slow down and review the material more thoroughly. I will bring up questions and help clarify concepts before moving on. With my one-on-one teaching approach, I can easily gauge the student’s response and comprehension and modify my teaching methods accordingly.

What’s a typical lesson like?

All sessions are over Zoom. We can work together on your worksheets, virtual labs, and review PowerPoint lessons together on a one-on-one basis.

How does payment work? Can you do a payment plan?

Unfortunately, no payment plans are available. Payment for lessons must be made in advance, and no sessions are scheduled until after payments are made. However, multiple lessons can be scheduled and paid for at once.

What’s your cancellation policy?

If you’d like to cancel your lesson, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance. If not, you will be charged for the full cost of the lesson.

Is there a minimum commitment for lessons?

You can schedule and pay for multiple sessions at once, or have one lesson a la carte, in order to schedule for your convenience. If you do pay for a month’s worth of lessons at once, you are eligible for a 10% discount — the rate decreases from $60/hr to $54/hr.

通常的一节课是什么样的？

为了维持安全的社交距离，目前我们所有的课程均通过 Zoom 进行授课。尽管如此，我发现这样仍能很好地随机应变，因为我们仍然可以一起解决你的练习题、虚拟实验室，并在一对一的基础上复习 PPT 课程。

付款方式是怎样的？您能制定一个付款计划吗？

很遗憾，目前没有任何付款计划。课程付款必须提前支付，并且付款之后才会安排课程时间。不过，若是要安排多节课，则可以在安排好时间后一次性支付。

您的取消政策是什么？

如果你想要取消课程，请至少提前 24 小时通知我。如果没有，你将被收取全部费用。

课程付费是否有最低支付额？

你可以一次安排多节课的时间并支付费用，也可以一次支付一节课的费用，以方便你安排时间。如果你确实一次支付了一个月的课程费用，则有资格享受九折优惠——价格从 60 美元 /小时降至 45 美元/小时。
